Power and Performance
- Fuel Economy: Precision Multi-Point Electronic Fuel Injection delivers the exact amount of fuel needed for optimum performance and efficiency. Yamaha’s EFI optimizes fuel atomization further enhancing fuel economy.
- Single Overhead Camshaft: A Single Overhead Camshaft (SOHC), three-cylinder design on the F40 and F30 provides a compact, lightweight, space-saving design.
- Precise Throttle Control: All air entering the engine block of is routed through a single throttle valve, to ensure the precise amount of air necessary for optimum power and fuel efficiency. It then enters each cylinder through individual long intake tracks, which are ‘pulse tuned’ to provide air at the precise volume and timing for maximum density and power.
- Dependable Starting: The F40 and F30 feature a vapor-reducing fuel return system. Used in conjunction with multi-point electronic fuel injection, they offer dependable turn-key starting in hot or cold conditions.
Reliability and Durability.
- Corrosion Protection: Combined with our proprietary alloy (YDC-30), our exclusive Phase Five™ anti-corrosive paint system provides a tough, five-layer barrier against corrosion. This protection is standard on all Yamaha Midrange four-stroke engines.
- Advanced Technology: The F40 and F30 are equipped with an Engine Control Module that interfaces with Yamaha Diagnostic System software. This provides a view of selected past and current running conditions, to help technicians provide a complete and accurate diagnosis of your engine.
- Protection from the Elements: A proven one-piece cowling with an intake air drain system easily and efficiently drains water away that enters the cowling. Incoming air is routed through a labyrinth of passages that help trap water before it enters the engine’s intake for maximum reliability.
- Cleaner Fuel: A large, on-engine water separating fuel filter with a water sensor is used in conjunction with the Yamaha optional boat-mounted 10-Micron Water Separating Fuel Filter. This helps separate water and contaminants from the fuel before they can reach the outboard’s other filters and fuel injectors.
Convenience and Control.
- Control and Comfort: Our optional, award-winning Multi-Function Tiller handle features a Variable Trolling RPM Switch (VTS®). It allows for precision trolling speed adjustments in 50-RPM increments. Compatible with all Midrange models.
- Easy Engine Flushing: A Freshwater Flush Device allows you to flush the engine without running it, for added convenience and extended engine life.
- Power Trim and Tilt: Power trim and tilt models provide a trim range of -3 up to +20 degrees. This brings the bow of the boat up, for better hole shot and top speed and a smoother ride.

Rick Clunn –
Bought my Yamaha 30hp Outboard motor to push my Quintrex Wide Body Dory 420. Was told by all except one outboard dealer that a 30 HP four stroke would not have enough grunt to push a 420 WB Dory & that I should get a 40. WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH!!! I chose not to go with the 40 for the following reasons.
1. Another 2.5 to 3 grand cost.
2. At around 100kg a 40HP was approaching the maximum transom weight limit of the hull & from experience, too much weight at the transom caused my old 2 stroke Mercury 30 on the same boat to really struggle to get the boat out of the hole & onto plane.
The 30 HP performs as follows.
1. The engine has so much torque down low that you don’t really have to rev it to get it on plane, just trim it right, hold the revs at an acceptable level & the torque just tractors the hull out of the water & onto plane.
2. Got the boat to well over 45KPH & at about 3/4 to 2/3 throttle. That’s as fast as I want to go in a 4.2 tinny.
3. Performs as above with two bodies in the boat. One at 85kg & the other at 95kg. Can’t speak for three up, but if you’re fishing with three in a 4.2 – good luck to you!
4. Electric trim & tilt. Electric start & pull start also. The injectors don’t need a battery to run.
5. Great on fuel. A full day of fishing & about 25 clicks covered, used 12 litres of 98 octane!!!
6. Engine only weighs about 70kg.
7. Simple controls, no complicated tiller handle controls to cause faults over the years.
8. By far & away the best value 4 stroke 30HP TS on the market IMHO.
9. Yamaha Marketplace had a special on portables in late 2019, so I got a substantial discount from RRP. $5,2000.00 fitted + $200.00 for a battery + $100.00 for a genuine Suzuki water separating filter. Though I doubt very much you’d get one for that now & I really had to shop it all over the place to get that price, next closest was 6k.
10. Super quiet & smooth engine.
11. Spark plugs & filters etc are cheap.
I did a lot of research before pulling the trigger on this engine. Yes you can buy something that is possibly better with more features, but there was only one other 30 HP on the market that weighed only 70 odd KG & It was a lot more expensive.
NO MORE PULLING THE MOTOR UP & DOWN MANUALLY. Electric trim makes a good day out on the water just plain excellent.

They remove the exhaust valve stem seal! My 30hp has done 36hrs and oil filter change was done at 20.5hrs and going awesome! The only issue I have seen personally is mine wasn’t getting full throttle, I adjusted throttle cable on carburator side and now what a difference my Zodiac 2.4m with aluminium bottom gets up and planes. Hope this helps all others.
